I have an auto insurance policy with my spouse. He was in an accident and filed a claim. He is not planning to buy another car and is going to use public transport. If I drop him from my policy, will my rates still go up because of his claim even though I was not involved in the accident? If I go with a different insurance company only for myself, will they also quote higher rates because of the claim?

Aggressive driving ‘worst car insurance holder behaviour’
The worst behaviour by car insurance holders driving as part of their job is aggressive behaviour, new research has shown.
A study by FleetDirectory.co.uk has highlighted that 40 per cent of fleet managers felt this was the worst behaviour.
Driving too fast was an issue for 27 per cent of respondents, while poor pedal control and braking too hard took six and seven per cent, respectively.
Richard Lawton, spokesperson for the researcher, claimed it is understandable that this form of behaviour is so concerning.
He said: “Fleet drivers need to stay calm in difficult driving situations, even if they themselves become victim to aggressive behaviour.
Toyota ‘remaining popular among car insurance policyholders’
Despite media coverage questioning Toyota’s recent safety record, car insurance policyholders are continuing to buy the manufacturer’s cars.
Glass’s, publisher of Glass’s Guide to Used Car Values, highlighted the fact that this brand’s cars continue to hold some of the highest residual values.
Jonathan Brown, car editor at the organisation, claimed that the furore about Toyota’s recent recalls have not had an impact on this quality.
He explained: “There is a severe shortage of good-quality used Toyotas within the dealer network and, despite the recall crisis, demand remains sufficiently strong to underpin values.”
Mr Brown added that it is unlikely people’s safety concerns will continue for long, predicting that the brand will regain any lost ground shortly.
At the time of the recalls, the association of British Insurers emphasised the fact that car insurance policies would continue to cover Toyota vehicles, stating that claims would be dealt with in the normal way and in line with the terms and conditions of the deal.

Do You Really Need Rental Car Insurance? Here’s When
There are some instances that you have to go out of town and drive a rented vehicle. In these instances, you should always make allowances for any accidents that might occur while spending your time away either on business or on vacation. That is what rental car insurance is for.
In many cases, you would be asked if you need it or not. It helps to have a strong knowledge base when it comes to auto insurance before you choose or make a decision.
If you are traveling on vacation and have rented a car, the deductibles as well as the coverage you have with your present car insurance may apply to the car you are renting. If you currently have comprehensive car insurance then your rented car is definitely covered at the highest level.
Could motor insurance costs fall due to van sector self-regulation?
Self-regulation in terms of vehicle safety and maintenance should be encouraged, a leading group has claimed, which could lead to a fall in motor insurance costs.
The Freight Transport Association (FTA) is calling for the industry to implement serious self-regulation in order to boost these areas, as well risk assessed operating methods and driver behaviour.
Richard White, the group’s van project leader, has highlighted the fact that the sector has a number of proven van working practices already in place.
He explained: “Using that knowledge and having formalised an agreed code of conduct, it is now a question of getting accord from all van operators, large and small.”
Mr White emphasised the FTA’s commitment to the code and its predictions that this will set the standards for working practices.
A new code of practice for road works has been heralded as reducing the inconvenience facing car insurance holders.
Sadiq Khan, transport minister, has claimed that this will apply to those companies digging up road surfaces.

Almost half of car insurance policyholders do not have faith in the main political parties, according to research.
A survey by What Car? found that 43 per cent of motorists do not believe the Liberal Democrats, Labour, the Conservatives or the Green Party would be able to serve them well.
The research found that the Tories were believed to be best placed for supporting car insurance policyholders, with 37 per cent saying they would serve them well.
Just four per cent were in favour of the Green Party and only five per cent believed the Lib Dems could serve their interests.
Labour were the second most-favoured party, with 11 per cent thinking they could do a good job for car insurance policyholders.
“Our poll shows how little confidence the average motorist has in politicians,” said What Car?
