The government has published a revised code of practice for companies that dig up the road surface, potentially causing problems for car insurance policyholders.

Transport minister Sadiq Khan announced the launch of the new guidance, which aims to make sure companies who disturb the road surface replace it properly to reduce the risk of potholes forming.

It is estimated that poorly-restored tarmac leads to around 90,000 remedial works taking place each year, causing inconvenience to car insurance policyholders.

The announcement is the latest in a series of measures set out by the government over the last nine months to reduce disruption caused by road works.

Mr Khan said: “The new code of practice will ensure that when utilities dig up the road they replace it properly – reducing disruption as well as the probability of potholes developing.”

Recent research by the Asphalt Industry Alliance found that car insurance policyholders were faced with 1.4 million potholes on the roads last year.

One in five car insurance policyholders does not test drive a model before they buy it, according to new research.

A survey by Carmony.co.uk found that a quarter of Brits admit to regretting purchasing a car soon after getting it home, with almost ten per cent saying colour is the reason for their dissatisfaction.

Many car insurance policyholders are intimidated by the buying process and often act before they think, according to the research.

Over three-quarters of those surveyed admitted that they felt out of their depth and had little or no confidence when making decisions about buying a car.

“Our research has revealed only a quarter of Brits feel confident with the car buying process and it’s clear that some consumers need help when they’re choosing a car,” said Alan Hazelhurst, of Carmony.co.uk.

However, another recent study found that 60 per cent of women enjoy buying a car and play a bigger role in the buying decision than traditionally thought.

How much auto insurance do I need if I own a home and some other assests?

My auto insurance company told me that if I’m in an accident and I don’t have enough auto insurance I can be sued and possibly lose my home. I never heard of anyone losing their home because of an auto accident. If I have a good driving record, how much insurance do I really need and can I really lose my home if I don’t have enough? and how do you collect from someone who doesn’t have any insurance? It seems stupid to carry uninsured insurance if I can sue someone for damages.
