The latest technology that installs black boxes in the cars, just like those in the cockpits of airplanes, helps in processing car insurance claims easily and smoothly.

A leading driving institute in the UK suggests that drivers as well as car insurance companies can enjoy a wide range of benefits on implementing this black-box technology. This is so because car insurance companies have created various groups of drivers based on their associated risk factors. For instance, if we compare car insurance costs of a young male driver with a middle-aged man of around 40 years, we can see a huge gap between it. This is so because insurance company due to a belief that they are aggressive drivers and have more probability of crashing their cars has put a young male into a high-risk category. In actual, not all boys may be aggressive drivers, so why should they pay more. With the implementation of black-box technology, the segregation of the drivers based on their driving attributes will be eliminated.

Another name for this black-box technology is ‘pay as you go’ insurance covers. This means that your insurance premiums will be entirely based on how you drive and handle the vehicle. The small black box records how aggressively you hit the brakes, what your average speed is and how often you exceed the speeding limit. There will be no need to compare car insurance policies for finding the cheapest one; you just have to work on your driving skills to lower your premiums.

The director of policies and research at the driving institute adds that installing these little black boxes will also help in extracting details of minor crashes and accidents and avoid minor errors that could complicate the claims. He also highlighted a weakness of this technology. He said that there is no guarantee that a driver can improve his driving skills just because he/she knows there is a black box installed in the car.
